Stress managment versus managing your emotions
Stress has become one of the most often used – and yet probably the most meaningless word in the corporate world.
Stress can be used to describe the burden accompanying leadership positions, the emotional state of being related to private challenges and conflicts, it is also viewed as a source of exhaustion, and it even can be regarded as a positive stimulating tension. Thus it comes as no surprise that this word is difficult to understand for many people.
Although we know a lot more about this phenomena than 20 years ago, and the toolkit of solutions has also been considerably broadened, the symptomes have not diminished. In fact, despite all efforts, the number of stress-related diseases has been increasing – alongside with the use of various sedatives and tranquilizers.
A stressful employee or a stressed leader, however, can be a great challenge to the company.
In a profit-oriented world, we tend to avoid the subject of emotions. In order to reach the required goals and numbers, everyone has to be committed and persistent. Emotions matter only to the extent to which they support reaching the goals.
It is widely accepted that if emotions effect our efficiency in any negative way, they have to be surpressed. Since they are considered to be the source of the problem. Being numb is often percieved as normal and even professional.
Albert Einstein has already stated:
“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that has created it.”
If we accept his idea, it means that someone living under considerable mental stress is unable to change this state of being by trying to fight it with his/her mental force.
We can hear more and more about the importance and future role of artificial intelligence.
Yet, we seem to have less information about the intelligence of our bodies and about the information we can have access to through the human body.
